Case Study: Green Farm Farmer Community App and Responsive Website

Project Overview

The Challenge:

Local communities lack platforms for connecting with and supporting local farmers and producers.

The goal:

Enhancing the user experience of Fun Tees Factory, an online custom T-shirt store, I optimize personalization by enabling customers to effortlessly tailor their shirts using provided templates or self-created designs. Catering to a wide age range of 16 to 50 years, my design approach caters to diverse user preferences.

The product:

Green Farm is a local farmer goods trading platform that bridges the gap between residents and nearby farmer markets, farmers, and makers. Enabling local communities to easily discover and purchase local goods, the platform significantly supports and empowers local farmers and artisans.

My role:

UX designer designing an app and a responsive website for Green Farm local farmer trading platform from conception to delivery.

Responsibilities:
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, and iterating on designs.

Project duration:

6 weeks

Understanding The User

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was local people who want to connect with their local farmer markets and support local farmers and makers.

User Pain Points

Connection

Local people can’t find a tool to connect with local farmers and vendors.

Features

It’s difficult to find an app featuring local farmer market place.

Time

Some working adults want to buy and support local vendors but don’t have time to go to local farmer market.

Persona & problem statement

Problem statement:

Raul is a busy culinary student who needs to seek out and buy local good from local vendors because local vendors don’t have a platform to reach out and sell their goods to local people.

Accessibility considerations

1

Conduct research on how successful the app is in reaching the goal to connect community to local famers and makers.

2

Add more information for users to learn about connecting with local famers and makers

3

Provide incentives and rewards to users for attending in usability study test.

Going forward

Takeaways

Impact:

Our target users shared that the design was intuitive to navigate through, more engaging with the images, and demonstrated a clear visual hierarchy.

What I learned:

I learned that even a small design change can have a huge impact on the user experience. The most important takeaway for me is to always focus on the real needs of the user when coming up with design ideas and solutions.

Next Steps

1. Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.

2. Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
